Proper circulation is the first of the three C's needed to keep a pool safe and healthy. All pools, big or small, are trying to do one thing: they are trying to turn into a pond! Stagnant, still water is never a good sign for a swimming pool. Moving water is much cleaner and safer, which is why proper pool water circulation is so important. Pools with good circulation are less likely to experience issues like cloudy water or develop pool algae. Good circulation also promotes good filtration of the contaminants found in your pool water and it provides good distribution of your pool's sanitizer (chlorine). The key component for good pool water circulation is the main pool pump which needs to run at least 8 to 10 hours to turn over your pool water at least once per day. The pool cleaner or booster pump (i.e. Polaris) needs to run at least 2 hours per day to help keep the bottom free of loose debris.
Good circulation is only the beginning of having a safe and healthy pool. Good circulation is only the beginning of having a safe and healthy pool. The second component is cleaning the pool which involves weekly skimming of debris on the pool surface and netting of debris on the pool bottom. This goes a long way towards helping keep the pool from turning into a pond! During the warm summer months, brushing the pool bottom and sides helps make algae formation less likely. Keeping your skimmer basket, cleaner bag or canister, and pump basket free of debris helps maintain good circulation and filtration. Cleaning of the actual pool water starts with good circulation of the pool water. Proper circulation is a requirement for good filtration which removes those small contaminants from your pool water. Sand and cartridge filters alike both need regular maintenance to ensure proper operation and filtration of your pool water. Sand filters need to be backwashed regularly and cartridge filters need to be opened up, filter elements removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Additionally, there are other pool components that need to be kept in good operating condition such as timers, pool cleaners, chlorinators, salt chlorine generators, flow switches, plumbing and valves. All of these play an important part in helping keep your pool clean.

It is absolutely essential for all swimming pools and spas to undergo regular weekly DETAILED pool water chemistry analysis. Test strips can provide a quick look at a pool's water chemistry but they cannot be relied upon for accurate testing and dosing of the pool water with the necessary pool water chemicals. The two primary pool water chemistry elements that we test for every time we visit your pool are sanitizer (chlorine) and pH. These two levels tell us more about your pool water than all the other pool water chemistry elements combined. Sanitizer or chlorine is used to kill bacteria in your pool. Without it - you'll have a pond! There's no way around it. All pools must have a sufficient amount of chlorine to maintain a safe and healthy pool environment. Your pool's pH is largely dismissed and being an important element, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Your pool's pH is a measure of how acidic or basic your water is. The pH level not only affects the comfort of the pool's water on your skin and in your eyes, but it also plays a large part in the total effectiveness of the chlorine we put in your pool. We also keep check on other water chemistry elements such as Total Alkalinity, Stabilizer, Calcium Hardness, Phosphates and Salinity for pools equipped with Salt Chlorine Generators (SCG). Once we have a complete picture of your pool's water chemistry, we can begin treating your water to eventually achieve a nice balance that is clean, safe and healthy for you, your family and your friends.
